Programs of The Jesse Helms Center

Founded in 1987, The Jesse Helms Center exists to promote traditional American values and the principles upon which our nation was founded and that Senator Jesse Helms advanced throughout his career.  This is accomplished through education, public policy promotion, and historical preservation and a variety of programs.

The Jesse Helms Center is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, non-partisan organization supported by tax-deductible donations. The Jesse Helms Center Foundation's programs are offered at little or no cost to the public. This is made possible by the support of foundations, individuals and corporations who recognize the value of the programs and the non-partisan commitment of the foundation.

Archives

The Jesse Helms Center is the official repository for the Congressional papers of Senator Helms.  The papers span his 30 year Senate career from 1973-2003.  Also included in the collection are the personal papers of Senator Helms which document his pre-Senate career as Executive Vice-President of WRAL television station in Raleigh, NC, his stint on the Raleigh City Council, and his civic activities in the Raleigh area.  This important segment of the collections dates from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Laws of Life

The Laws of Life program is a character education teaching tool and essay contest that encourages students to express the values that are most important to them, through an emphasis on reflection and writing. Ultimately, Laws of Life is about concerned adults working together to support, honor, and publicly recognize young people who demonstrate an understanding of good character. The Helms Center is the North Carolina sponsor for the essay contest that comes from the John Templeton Foundation.
