Peace through Strength: Confronting Global Threats
from the UN to the Frontlines

Ambassador Mike Waltz serves as the 32nd U.S. Representative to the United Nations. A former Congressman representing Northeast Florida, Waltz served as National Security Advisor to President Donald Trump, a combat-decorated U.S. Army Green Beret, and has also been a small business owner and author.

At the United Nations, Waltz is leading President Trump’s effort to return the UN to its core mission:diplomacy, burden sharing, peace, security, and lifesaving assistance. He has spearheaded major reforms to reduce wasteful spending and streamline peacekeeping missions—including the UN’s first major budget cut in its existence. Waltz has also been a leading voice against anti-American and anti-Semitic bias at the UN and has championed international religious freedom and the plight of persecuted Christian communities around the world.

Ambassador Waltz has a daughter and a young son. He is married to Dr. Julia Nesheiwat, a combat veteran who served in the first Trump administration as Homeland Security Advisor.

The Admiral James W. Nance Foreign Policy Lecture Series is named in honor of Admiral James “Bud” Nance, a lifelong friend and professional associate of Senator Helms. Admiral Nance was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, whose commands in the Navy included the U.S.S. Forrestal aircraft carrier. The admiral also served as deputy national security advisor to President Reagan and as the chief of staff to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
